Our Services
What We Do
The Product Testing Institute provides accredited tyre testing services for passenger, truck and bus tyres,
meeting both national and international standards through ISO 17025-aligned testing procedures.
Passenger Tyre Testing
Load, Speed, Endurance, Rolling Resistance
Truck & Bus Tyre Testing
High-load endurance, speed, structural behaviour
Specialised Testing
Bead unseating, plunger tests, rolling resistance
Rim Testing
Cornering fatigue and impact performance evaluation
Passenger Tyres (SANS 20030)
Load/Speed/Endurance
PTI conducts accredited testing for passenger tyres according to SANS 20030, adopted from UN ECE R30.
This test evaluates tyre performance under varying loads and speeds to ensure compliance with safety and durability standards.
- Spinning the tyre against a road wheel
- Behaviour monitored under controlled load and speed profiles
- Aligned with recognised global testing procedures
- Test duration: ±1 hour
Truck & Bus Tyres (SANS 20054)
Load/Speed/Endurance
PTI performs accredited testing according to SANS 20054, adopted from UN ECE R54.
This evaluates the structural performance of heavy-duty commercial tyres under demanding operating conditions.
- Tyre behaviour monitored at different speeds and heavy loads
- Designed for commercial, truck, and bus applications
- Essential for compliance and market approval
- Test duration: ±47 hours
In accordance with ISO 28580
Rolling Resistance Testing
Rolling resistance testing evaluates how much energy is required to keep a tyre moving at a constant speed.
Lower rolling resistance reduces fuel consumption and emissions, making it essential for manufacturers and importers targeting efficiency standards.
- Performed on calibrated rolling resistance equipment
- Suitable for passenger, truck, and bus tyres
- Supports product development and compliance submissions
Safety & Structural Tests
Bead Unseat & Plunger Testing
Determines the force required to unseat the tyre bead from the rim and assesses resistance to penetration and sudden impact, ensuring safety under lateral loads and overall structural integrity.
